Macy's Culinary Council
So one of my multitude of guilty (or not so guilty) pleasures is shopping at Macy’s. I’m a sucker for the One Day Sale that always has a preview day (or two) and happens every week. (wink, wink) I normally only shop in the handbag, makeup and home departments. Most times I can resist the many makeup and handbag tempatations. But I lose it when I go into The Cellar. Last time I went, I was looking for a new cake plate and made the most wonderful discovery – Macy’s Culinary Council. If any of you shop at William Sonoma, you know they have a kitchen in the back where they have free cooking demos. Well, now you can find them at Macy’s as well. Macy’s is calling their council “America’s Leading Authority On All Things Culinary”. They’ve got quite the line-up of chefs that are part of the council, including master baker Gale Gand. Now “throughout Macy’s kitchens across nation find out how to sauce, saute and sizzle your way around your own kitchen.” And best of all, this is all for FREE.
Check out their national schedule to see which of their celebrity chefs will be in your neck of the woods. There are also smaller chef presentations/culinary events happening from store-to-store. Stop by your local Macy’s to check out this month’s schedule. In NYC, Macy’s Herald Square is hosting Melissa Murphy, author of The Sweet Melissa Baking Book on Saturday, April 18th at 1pm. She will be showcasing spring rhubarb in showing us how to bake our favorite treats. I will definitely there as Murphy’s book is becoming one of my favorites and if I’m lucky, I’m going to try to get her to sign it.
For those of you who may still be intimidated by baking, here is a great chance to learn from a pro for FREE.

Wow! This is so great to know. There’s a HUGE Macy’s right in San Francisco. I’m surely going to have to check this out (of course, the Williams Sonoma is across the street from the Macy’s…this could be dangerous).
