Sweet Melissa Sundays – Perfect Pound Cake
The hectic summer has kept me from baking along with the Sweet Melissa Sundays group. But I picked a great week to come back as Michelle of Veggie Num Nums made a great pick for this week – Perfect Pound Cake.
Let me start off by saying that I’m a bit biased when it comes to pound cake – My mother-in-law makes the world’s most perfect pound cake (because her recipe isn’t written out it’s taken me a while to get it right but I will get it to you all soon). For this reason, I’m calling this pound almost perfect.
Melissa Murphy’s recipe called simple ingredients that came together in a snap to make an incredibly lovely and tasty cake. I racked my brain for ways to jazz it up but after taking my first bite, I realized it’s perfect all by itself. Make sure to check out Michelle’s blog for the recipe, which includes Melissa Murphy’s story about what led her to develop the recipe. Or better yet, snag yourself a copy of the book.
For those of you who may be intimidated by baking, making this cake is a great way to get your feet wet.

I love pound cake! I just made some recently too… one with blueberries, one with a cinnamon swirl, and one with chocolate chips. But I agree — plain pound cake is just perfect too! Looks so moist!! Wish I had a piece.

I love those recipes from Moms and MIL's! My MIL gave me the best Sweet Potato pie recipe years ago and I have not found one that compares since! Im glad you liked the cake. It looks great!

That does look pretty perfect. I generally make Clotilde's yogurt cake instead of pound cake (it's a bit lighter and I like the booze in it) but you have persuaded me to give this a try!

Hmmm, I want to read more about your MIL's pound cake, I'm intrigued. Yours looks fabulous, and I agree — pound cake needs something to jazz it up.
