Sunday Quiche

Since getting married a couple of months ago, a question I get at least once a day is “Has anything changed since you got married?” I can happily say that while a handful of things have changed (for the better) most things are the same. See after being with someone for over 7 years, you develop “things” – the things that make you a unit and the things you share in the privacy of your union.

My husband and I have a ton of “things” that make us Bareli (yes…we combined our name before it was being done for celeb couples). One of our favorites is Bareli Sundays. It’s an easy, simple day that starts with quiche and mimosas and ends with cozy naps on the couch with the dog. This is one part of our “old” life we are glad has not changed.

Recently I was contacted by the folks over at Pillsbury about their “Love the Pie” campaign to promote Pillsbury Refrigerated Pie Crusts. Although I never make pie I do rely on Pillsbury Refrigerated Pie Crusts for my Sunday Quiche. My Sundays would not be the same without them actually.

While I am not one to take baking shortcuts, I swear by these pie crusts. Not only are they incredibly flavorful and flaky but they bake up perfect every time. In terms of making quiche, these unroll and fill pie crusts take all the fuss out of the quiche making process. My method is pretty simple:

  1. Unroll and press crust into a pie pan. Crimp the edges.
  2. Poke the entire shell with a fork and bake at 425 degrees for 20-30 minutes.
  3. While the crust is baking, prepare the filling – which starts by whisking 7 eggs, 1/4 milk, black pepper and thyme to taste.
  4. Your main ingredients are up to you. I usually go with cooked turkey bacon and extra sharp cheddar but the possibilities are endless.
  5. Add your main ingredients to your egg mixture and pour into your pie crust. Before putting quiche into oven cover the edges with foil or a pie shield to prevent them from burning.
  6. Bake the quiche at 375 degrees for 40-60 minutes or until the top has puffed and is brown.

Serve with a mixed green salad and a cold mimosa and have yourself a great Sunday.

I LOVE quiche! When I was growing up it was a strictly Christmas morning thing, but I make it more often now. I love to make mini-quiche in muffin cups for bruches and parties! Yours looks lovely!

Perfect way to spend a Sunday! While I make a mean pie crust, I still in a pinch buy the refrigerated brand, but just kick it up a notch. For instance, when I make my apple pie, I press cracked pepper and cheddar cheese in the crust – Love the spicy/cheesy/sweet combo!
