Bittersweet Blogoversary

In the wee hours between January 1st and 2nd last year I decided to embark on a blogging adventure. The last year has been an incredible journey. What I have enjoyed the most is how blogging has allowed to find a little bit of myself. I know this sounds a bit utopian. But in a time when many are trying to find themselves or figure out who they want to be when they grow up, I’m glad to have found an outlet that allows me to be, well, little old me, and share it with everyone. Don’t get me wrong, I still don’t know what I want to be when I grow up. But while I figure it out, baking and blogging keeps me busy.

Thank you so much to all of you who subscribe and follow A Chica Bakes. And even more thanks to all of you who leave such wonderful comments. I am still amazed at how many new friends I have made since starting the blog and look forward to engaging in more wonderful conversations with you all in 2010.

When thinking about how to celebrate A Chica Bakes’ first birthday, I thought about baking a festive layer cake for the joyous occasion. But on December 31st this was overshadowed by the horrible news that Cablevision, my local cable provider, would be cancelling The Food Network. I’m still at a loss for words over this. When I started watching the Food Network many years ago, I found my niche. It became clear to me that I liked more than just eating food. I love reading and learning about it, making it and watching others make it, talking about it…the list goes on. And I was completely heartbroken to learn that Cablevision can’t get their act together to service their customers. For those of you in the NY tri-state area that have been left Food Network-less, click here to demand Cablevision to bring the network we all love back.

Here’s to another year of blogging and hopefully one full of more Food Network programming.

What a bummer! I can't believe that you are being held hostage by a cable company – you would think they would do everything they could to keep customers right now – but apparently not.Well, happy blogoversary anyways – and I'm looking forward to seeing what you have in store for 2010!

Can you not switch cable companies? We did when one company didn't carry a channel we wanted. (Maybe it doesn't work that way in NYC??)That's crazy to me, knowing the Food Network is IN NYC!Hope it's all worked out. I think you're smart to get the word out and as many people who can, call the company and complain.Happy Blogging Anyway!

Happy Blogoversary! I'm horrified that your cable company dropped Food Network!! Especially since they are showing the Iron Chef with Michelle Obama and the White House garden! Oh, so sad. I hope Cablevision gets their act together or you can switch companies (down with those cable monopolies!!) – mary

Happy Blogiversary Eliana! Congratulations my dear! Can I tell you that it absolutely made my day finding a message from you- I was thinking of you this morning and was seriously JUST about to give "A Chica Bakes" (a much overdue) visit to say hello and see how you were doing! First of all, I am SO proud of your wonderful accomplishment- your FABULOUS site is 1 year old! YAY! You are so talented, creative, insightful, and inspiring, and it is truly an honor and privilege to have you as a friend and baking buddy. Thank you for all the hard work you invest in your blog- I've been in love with it ever since my first visit and I can't wait to see all the amazing things you whip up in year #2!Secondly, I can't express how sorry I am about the tragedy that is a Food Network cancellation… I'm not exaggerating, if I was in your area, I seriously think I would have a nervous breakdown, as I'm somewhat convinced FoodTV keeps me sane. I REALLY hope that the cable company realizes the error in their ways, and decides to keep it for you. But if not, please know you are ALWAYS welcome to come hang out on my couch in Boston and catch up on all your favorite programs- I'll even DVR them for you ;) Okay my dear, before I go, I also want to wish you a very happy New Year filled with much love and good health, and let you know I am looking forward to another fun year of baking and blogging together in 2010. Hope you have a great week, and I'll talk to you soon!<3 always,Joy
