Latin Flair Cookbook Spotlight – Dulce

It’s no secret that I am a cookbook lover. And it doesn’t help that I have various bookstores within walking distance from my office that I frequent more often than I would like to admit when I want to “get some air” around lunch time. On a recent trip to Posman Books in Grand Central Station a book jumped out from the shelf, tugged me and pulled at my curls to get my attention.

The book is Dulce – Desserts in the Latin American Tradition by Joseluis Flores – and what a beauty of a book it is. If I ever wrote a cookbook, this would be it.

Savory Latin American cuisine is extremely popular but the sweeter side doesn’t get as much love. Hence, there are no cookbooks (until this one) devoted solely to Latin American desserts. We all love flan, churros and tres leches cake, but Dulce uncovers a whole new world of exotic Latin flavors. In it, you will find recipes from a wide range of cultures. Yes, Mexicans, Colombians, Chileans, Dominicans, Puerto Ricans, Peruvians are all Latinos but we are all different in our own way and Dulce celebrates the diversity in Latin American flavors.

In the coming months, expect much more from this, my new favorite cookbook, on A Chica Bakes as I bake my way through its tasty pages. Get yourself a copy and join in on the fun.

It must be an amazing book. I'm just like you. I'm looking for new and interesting cook books all the time. The time I can spend in a book store just looking into cook books is more than the time I spend looking for new clothes.Love,Lia.

I am a cookbook whore too – they always seem to jump into my arms at thrift stores and garage sales, much to my husband's dismay!

LOL, Biz is funny but I'm one too. I'm pushing 175. I saw that cookbook and browsed through it briefly. I thought it looked really good (loved all the photos) but I also thought the recipes looked complex. You actually have the book. What are your thoughts? Are the complex or time consuming? Can't wait to read and see more on this book. ~ingrid

I understand the conflict. It's never my first choice but I love baking with chocolate and it makes everyone love you!
